Benetton’s Kissing Pope Ad

The Vatican claims that this ad is “damaging not only to the dignity of the pope and the Catholic Church but also to the feelings of believers.” I can think of some things that the Vatican and its minions have done that have already done this damage. The Vatican is threatening suit to prevent the image’s circulation.

  • It’s the hats that bother me. The embrace is all wrong. What are they about to do? A foxtrot? Samba? I don’t know but the hats have to go and I’m a hat man myself. So it’s not prejudice on my part, just that those hats are all wrong.

Then there’s the wardrobe problem, what’s with the all white garb? There’s nothing a pope can wear outside of white? Labor day is over, someone should tell him that. And black with or without a collar is too old fashion for intimacy and does nothing for his complexion.

With the hats and wardrobe a bother, you have two old geezers getting hot and heavy. That bothers me too. Do they have to be so old? Couldn’t they use Photo Shop and dismiss twenty or thirty years?

The whole thing is obviously bad publicity for religion. It’s a terrible photo no matter how you look at it.
