The Long View

David “Mudcat” Saunders, a Virginian in the southwest of that Commonwealth (where I had the privilege of serving in the ministry in the late 1070s and early 80s), has this to say about the charge that Obama’s desire to “redistribute wealth” is “socialist” or “communist” (having no substance to their campaign and now desperate, the Republicans simply resort to tantrums of name calling–epithet as substitute for policy, I suppose):

“We’ve traded local economies for Wall Street dividends. That’s all that happended. Since the dawn of time, the big sons of bitches kicked the little sons of bitches’ ass. And that’s what’s happenin’ now. I mean, it’s time to fight. I mean, anybody who doesn’t think we have a probelm with economic disparity, it’s the worst it’s been since the eighteen-eighties. And the redistribution-of-the-wealth argument? I love it when a Republican says to me, ‘The Democrats wanna redistribute the wealth.’ Well, there’s been a redistribution of wealth–but it’s the other fuckin’ way!”
